The FAMU Concert Choir - very well known for the versatility of their various singing styles. Florida A&M University Concert Choir Highlights
2021 – 2022 - 2023
Very well known for the versatility of their various singing styles, their diverse repertoire spans the choral genres of classical, a cappella spirituals, contemporary, gospel, jazz and multicultural styles. The Concert Choir consists of some of the most talented students on the campus of FAMU. These humble yet gifted students come together as Music majors and Non-Music majors to prepare musical events such as Annual Fall, Holiday and Spring Concerts as well as other invitations and tour performances. Recent tours include Washington D.C., Virginia, and Georgia. Most recently, October 2018 the FAMU Concert Choir was featured as the exhibition choral ensemble at the Florida ACDA.
Most recently, the FAMU Concert Choir made history in our Nation by being selected to sing the Black National Anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at an NFL game in Tampa, FL. This performance was a compilation presentation with vocal artist Alicia Keys.
In March of 2017 the FAMU Concert Choir gave a command performance of Verdi's Requiem
along with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra and in March 2019 the FAMU Concert Choir
will be featured with the Morehouse Glee Club and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra
in a performance of Beethoven's 9th symphony.
Members of the Concert Choir have performed at the prestigious world renowned Carnegie
Hall in New York City. FAMU vocal and choral students are also performing major cast
roles in Musicals and Opera Productions.
The choir remains visible and busy by hosting and presenting various student events
and choral activities within their campus, community and surrounding areas.
A few other past performances includes the Unity Concert with Dr. Andre Thomas and
the Tallahassee Community Chorus and Handel's Messiah with the Pensacola - Pedido
Symphony Orchestra. Other past performances also include singing in the Annual Holiday
Magic Concert with Broadway vocalist Sal Viviano and the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra.
The annual William Dawson Commemorative Concert Festival at Tuskegee University.
A collaborative recording project with hip hop artist "T" pain and a command performance
with the legendary world renowned Female vocal group, "Sweet Honey in the Rock".
The mission of the Florida A&M University Choral Music Division is to provide the
highest quality vocal / piano music at the undergraduate level for music majors embarking
on careers as teachers, scholars, performers or composers. It is also the mission
of the division to teach non-majors and members of the community about music as a
part of human culture and experience.
The FAMU Concert Choir usually takes two tours per year. One occurs during Spring Break, the other occurs at the end of the school year and the Choir has 3 major concert events during the year. A Fall Concert, the Holiday Moods Concert, and the Spring Colours Concert.
