CaKe: A Literary Journal is produced by the students and faculty of Florida A&M University’s Department of English and Modern Languages.

Deadline to Submit Extended to January 31

The deadline to submit to Cake: A Literary Journal has been extended to January 31, 2023.

Send us your Fiction, Poetry, or Art (Photo/digital accepted) for the Spring 2023 issue.

We are also now accepting submissions from the wider community, not just from students or employees at FAMU.

CaKe: A Literary Journal

CaKe: A Journal of Art and Poetry was founded in 2006 by Kristine Snodgrass and some of her creative writing students as a way to showcase the writing talent of the students at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University alongside more seasoned writers, such as Amiri Baraka.

In 2021, there was a slight change in the name to CaKe: A Literary Journal that reflects the different kinds of work included in each issue.

The journal is student-run, and many of the student editors have entered positions in publishing and editing or attained admission into various graduate programs.

New Issue Submissions

We are seeking Poetry, Fiction, or Art from writers of all backgrounds. To get a sense of the kinds of work we publish, check out the previous issues of CaKe: A Literary Journal.
Although the submission window is currently closed, our reading period is normally between October 15-January 15 to be considered for our Spring issue.
