Sunsum is a one-woman exhibition by visual artist, educator, mentor, philanthropist, and nationally certified traditional practitioner Afia Nson Bonsu. Bonsu's work is an exploration of the understated yet powerful levels of spirit in the history of African people. We are excited to share Bonsu's colorful, textural, and multidimensional artworks exploring traditions and spirit of the African diaspora.
This exhibition is a collaboration with the Florida A&M University Center for African and African American Studies.
ABOUT THE GALLERY
The Foster-Tanner Fine Arts Gallery is recognized as one of the top HBCU art galleries and/or museums. We feature year-round exhibitions that primarily feature works of art by Black artists and visual culture of the African diaspora.
Our art exhibitions are carefully selected to feature relevant subject-matter and media reflecting our campus constituents and stakeholders, while attracting diverse audiences to enrich and build bridges throughout our community.
We were founded as a teaching gallery. This means our primary purpose is to serve visual art students as well as those pursuing arts and humanities fields. With our courses in Museum Studies, the gallery also serves as a site for learning about art museums and associated professions.
SUMMER gallery hours: monday - friday, 12 pm - 5 pm
The Gallery is closed Saturdays and Sundays, and for all university holidays, observances, and breaks.
