THIRTY YEARS OF TRANSFORMING CHILDREN'S LIVES THROUGH THEATRE

COMMEMORATING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY AND FINAL SEASON OF THE IRENE C. EDMONDS YOUTH THEATRE CAMP SUMMER PROGRAM.

Summer 2026 marks a milestone that is both celebratory and bittersweet as the Irene C. Edmonds Youth Theatre Camp, affectionately known as ICE Camp, commemorates its 30th anniversary and final season, bringing to a close three decades of artistic excellence, youth development, and community impact.

Founded in 1997 by Valencia E. Matthews, Ph.D., longtime distinguished educator, veteran theatre advocate, and dean of the FAMU College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, ICE Camp was established to honor the legacy of pioneering children’s theatre educator Prof. Irene C. Edmonds. For 30 years, the camp has provided a transformative experience for young people while preserving and extending the vision of an educator whose influence helped develop youth and shape children’s theatre nationally.

Over the past three decades, hundreds of campers have passed through the program, developing confidence, creativity, leadership skills, and lifelong friendships. Many alumni have gone on to careers in the arts, education, and other professions, carrying with them lessons learned through their ICE Camp experience.

Charles Winter Wood Theatre,
Edmonds Stage

When Corey Rivers promises to bring fun back to Westbrook Middle School, students rally behind his campaign and usher in a new era of school spirit. But as questions of fairness, truth, and artificial intelligence begin to divide the student body, Westbrook finds itself facing a choice far bigger than any election. Rotten to the Core is an exciting new children's production that explores leadership, accountability, and the courage it takes to do what's right when the answers aren't easy.
