The Essential Theatre box office window is open only on the day of an event. The ticket office may open a few days before an event if popularity dictates special provisions.

Ticket Policies

  • Refund and Exchange Policies

    All sales are final. No Refunds or Exchanges.  Refunds are only permitted for cancellation of an event.

  • Reservations

    With the exception of subscribers, we do not hold seats or accept phone reservations.

  • Children

    Children ages 3 and older are required to have their own ticket and designated seat.  We kindly ask that you evaluate the suitability of the performance for children before making plans to attend.  Additionally, please note that disruptive children will not be permitted to stay in the theater.  We appreciate your consideration for fellow audience members and the comfort of your child.

  • FAMU Student Tickets  

    FAMU students receive one free ticket to each production supported by the Student Government Association. Students receive reduced ticket pricing for other productions.  Students may purchase tickets online or in person at the Tucker Hall box office. Availability may be limited for some performances. Student ticket purchases require your student ID.

  • Senior Citizens

    Any person 60 or older may purchase a senior citizen ticket. 

  • FAMU Employees

    Discounted ticket prices are offered for all FAMU employees with valid ID. Please present ID at the box office window.

  • Group Rates

    If you are comprised of 14 or more members then you are a group! Whether you are a group of seniors, students, professionals, or friends, the Essential Theatre offers services tailored to your group’s needs.

  • Morning Matinee Series

    We offer special rates for senior citizens and K - 12 student groups with chaperones.

Service and Emotional Support Animals Policy

Service animals that are specifically trained to assist individuals with disabilities are permitted in Charles Winter Wood Theatre.  Service animals must be under the control of the handler at all times, either harnessed,
leased, or tethered, unless these devices interfere with the animal’s work or the individual’s disability prevents their use. A service animal should not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others. If your animal
is out of control and you do not take effective action to control your animal or your animal poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others, you may be asked to remove your animal from the premises. 

While we understand the important role animals also play in providing comfort, unfortunately, comfort pets or emotional support animals are not allowed in the venue.  We appreciate your understanding as we strive
to create a safe and comfortable environment for all attendees.  We are committed to ensuring that our event is accessible to all attendees. If you require accommodations or assistance due to a disability, please contact
