Internship courses help develop and maintain professionalism, ethical behavior, and personal responsibility required in the workforce. Collaborative relationships are developed to further the understanding of what is required to be successful in gaining employment.

Internship Courses & Requirements

The Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice offers two internship Courses:
Criminal Justice – CCJ 4947 Field Experience in Criminal Justice
Sociology – SYA 4942 Internship in Sociology
Requirements
• Senior (90 credit hours or more)
• 2.5 GPA
• Degree Audit (completed and signed by your advisor)
• Background Check

Goals & Objectives
Internship courses are designed to enable students to meet the following educational goals and objectives:
GOAL 1: The student will develop knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures of law enforcement, courts, corrections, social justices, and human services. Develop knowledge of human society. Gain skills for program development, program evaluations and program practices.
GOAL 2: The student will identify and utilize the range of services available in the institutions, facilities, and program as each relates to society, law enforcement, courts, corrections, social justices, and human services. Develop awareness of personal biases that may interfere with decisions in the best interest of clients in social services, criminal justice, and juvenile justice system. Integrate classroom theory and actual sociological and criminological best practices. Gain employable skills by understanding of agency policies and procedures in the delivery of services.
GOAL 3: The student will develop capacity to perform assigned tasks; Act professionally and responsibly in the performance of duties as well as presentation of self; Demonstrate good character; Adhere to departmental/agency regulations relative to punctuality, appearance, confidentiality laws, priorities, and policies and procedures; Accept responsibility for individual actions/inaction; maintain cooperative relationship with agency co-workers, supervisors, and administrators. Communicate effectively with clients, staff, peers, and others, both orally and in writing. Develop the ability to use supervision and consultation effectively. Develop knowledge and skills that will enable future employment of student(s).
